1. Smeg BCC02
This sleek, compact, and striking machine, designed by the Milan-based firm Deep Design combines the brand's retro aesthetic with the latest technology. It is able to handle every step of the coffee-making process, from grinding beans and tamping the beans into a puck to making milk into a texturing process and dispenses the correct amount of coffee - meaning you can create barista-quality hot beverages with the click of the button.
The machine is also available in red, black and taupe. It can easily fit into any kitchen design. The machine is not without faults however. The majority of reviewers thought it was quite expensive for a cup-to- bean maker (and does not come with a pitcher of milk).
There were also many glowing reviews of the quality of the coffee and the ease of use of this machine. The digital display gives feedback and step-by-step directions throughout the entire process of brewing which will allow you to make your drink perfect each time. The machine even allows you to alter the size of the grind, if that's not what you prefer. It's almost like having your own personal home barista (minus Harry Potter's invisibility cloak, and Elon Musk's rocket-building abilities).
If you prefer milky drinks, this model features an adjustable steam wand that can be adjusted upwards and downwards to fit most drinking vessels short of the Viking's drinking horn. We were impressed with the speed and effectiveness of the frothing process as well. It produces a delicious, full-flavoured espresso with a wonderful crema.
The BCC02 is an excellent all-rounder. It's quiet and efficient, and is a great value with its current price of PS499. The only problem is that it doesn't provide the same level of customization like other bean-to-cup machines we have tested. It has a pump that is 15 bars rather than the standard 19 bars. This is not as effective for making high-quality espressos. Other than that, this is a fantastic machine to make coffee for those who prefer their coffee strong and dark.
